Reflections of the Season
by
Russell R. Grundke, Executive Director
The Fall Camping Programs were successful. Eight weeks of School Camp were experienced. Group Retreats filled most of October, November and December.

The Pumpkin Festival hosted some 3,500 adults and children. The Haunted Maze was such a great attraction this year that it was opened for admission the two following Sundays. Plans are already in the works to expand the Haunted Maze in 2004.

The Hiram House partnered with Moreland Hills to sponsor the Village’s 1st Annual Collector Car Show Benefit. Proceeds from this event went to the Hiram House Campership Fund and Village Police Department. The 2nd Annual Collector Car Show is already scheduled for next Fall.

The Climbing Wall was constructed and is ready for Spring School Camps. This group initiative experience will be incorporated into the Summer Camp programs.

Summer Day and Junior Day Camp early registration for 2004 began in September. Day is filled and Junior Day is almost filled. Summer Resident Camp signup begins in December. Next season Hiram House will expand the “Double H Ranch” Riding Program and is investigating offering an Adventure Program for teenagers.

The New Year is being viewed with excitement, enthusiasm and foresight. With the continued support of the community and The Hiram House Board of Trustees, I’m confident Hiram House will have another successful year in 2004.

Best Wishes of the Season to All!

Haunted Maze a Hit!

Visitors enjoyed SPOOK-tacular thrills, BOO-tiful fall foliage, delicious apple cider hot chocolate, pumpkin cookies, and family fun at the newly expanded “Haunted Maze”.

A popular attraction at the Pumpkin Festival, the hay Maze was expanded this year inside the new “Double H Ranch” and remained open on Sundays in October. Plans are to offer the Haunted Maze annually as a “family friendly” Fall event. Proceeds benefited the“Camperships for Kids Fund”.

Many thanks to organizer Sara Freeman as well as to employees of Key Bank, for a fantastic job setting up the Maze and to our volunteers for a terrific job staffing it!

Our thanks to all who participated!

The event attracted scores of classic auto enthusiasts and spectators to the Polo Field to see vintage cars from 1900 to 1985.

The 1931 Willys Knight Model No. 87 (at left), which was featured in the Academy Award winning film “Bonnie and Clyde” starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, was one of the many classic cars on display at the Collector Car Show Benefit.
